Physical Education

Martinshaw Primary School works together with parents and children to underpin the family, in all its forms, as the foundation for giving children support, encouragement and guidance during their formative years.

Martinshaw Primary School strives to maximize opportunities for children, young people and all associated with the school to be physically active by promoting all avenues for activity.  This includes the curriculum, environment and wider community.

PE teaching at Martinshaw Primary School will give children the tools and understanding required to make a positive impact on their own physical health and well-being. We aim to develop pupil’s fundamental movement skills and the application of these to become a better sports person.

PE at Martinshaw challenges pupils and promotes self-esteem through the development of problem-solving skills and physical confidence.

We also aim to provide our children with a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities to build on developing skills, tactics and understanding of games so they can compete, enjoy and improve in a range of sports.

By providing high quality PE education, we strive for the children to:

  • Be physically active throughout and beyond the school day.
  • Enhance their skills which underpin both success and enjoyment in PE.
  • Develop resilience, self-esteem, self-efficacy and aspiration.
  • Have opportunities to develop the appropriate skills and attitudes.
  • Understand the importance of physical activity and healthy lifestyle.
