Learning without limits: Outdoor learning At Martinshaw, we recognise and value the positive impact that learning outdoors has on children’s wellbeing and academic success. There are no limits to children’s learning when they step outdoors and we are extremely fortunate to have excellent outdoor facilities. Whether it is lighting a fire and cooking bread, using natural materials to create artistic masterpieces, a den building competition or fishing in our pond, there are so many learning experiences for our children to enjoy! The outdoor environment is also a great stimulus for writing and mathematics. Your child might learn how to measure the age and height of a tree or produce fantasy writing about the elves living in our woods. In or out of the classroom, at Martinshaw, the learning never stops! “There’s so much room to play and learn!” EDEN Resilient Courageous Reflective 8

A Helping Hand: Wrap Around Care The needs of our school community are of upmost importance to us. Our Breakfast and After-School clubs are run by school staff and provide a homefrom-home experience that is open to all children from Foundation to Year 6. They are a fantastic resource for busy Parents and Carers or for children who just want to stay and play with their friends! At Breakfast Club, children are provided with a nutritional breakfast and staff work hard to provide a safe and welcoming start to the day. Our After School Club has a dedicated play room as well as the use of the hall, an outdoor play area, our playing field and woods. Our pupils take part in fun and exciting activities, such as cosmic yoga, forest school, cooking and ceramics. These varied activities provide the opportunity for them to relax and unwind at the end of a busy day! Beyond the Classroom: Extra-Curricular We promote a varied and broad curriculum and we are proud of the additional activities that we offer here at Martinshaw. From football to orienteering, cheerleading to art, there are plenty of things for children to get involved in and lots of opportunities to develop or discover new talents! We know that learning doesn’t stop outside of the classroom. That’s why we regularly organise educational trips and welcome visitors into our school. We also provide opportunities for our children to get involved in their local community, whether it’s planting trees in the nearby woods, competing in a regional engineering competition or singing at a village fayre, we want our children to feel part of the community they live in. “I can’t thank the staff enough for caring about my daughter’s personal, social and emotional needs and not just her attainment in Maths and English.” PARENT “We love that the staff go the extra mile!” PARENT 9
